Lee Wiglesworth serves as President of Wiglesworth-Rindom Insurance Agency, bringing nearly 20 years of industry experience to his role. He began his career at UPS as an operations manager. In 2004 he co-founded the agency with his father in-law, Michael Rindom, and wife, Megan Wiglesworth. With a focus on giving back to the industry, he serves as Director of the Professional Insurance Agents of Florida (PIA of Florida), which focuses on serving independent agency channels. PIA has an enduring mission to advance the needs of its members and be a leading voice in the insurance industry through its four pillars: Inform, Educate, Advocate & Protect. We recently sat down with our agency partner, Lee Wiglesworth, to discuss a guiding principle in his office.
Could you share your guiding principle or mantra?
Be a thermostat, not a thermometer. These simple six words have a significant impact if you understand the difference between the two:
A thermostat sets the temperature and changes the environment around them.
A thermometer only tells you the environment; it only knows if it’s too hot or cold.
How do you transfer this quote into an action plan within your team?
I strive to be a dynamic leader who is the thermostat, setting the group’s climate and emotional temperature. We encourage the team to revolutionize their sales approach, becoming genuine risk managers for our clients. It is about investing time, understanding their needs, and empowering them through education.
How do you invest in your team?
We must require that our team members have the appropriate state license; but we also encourage them to get industry designations. Insurance has not been just my job, but my career. Continuing education is necessary as the industry constantly evolves.
